Rights and Reuse

The Fashion Calendar Research Database is comprised of two separate but interrelated datasets: the original material published in print by Ruth Finley from 1941 until 2014, and all subsequent data published by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) after taking over the Fashion Calendar in 2015. Due to the unique rights and ownership of each dataset, there are differences in the ways each can be used and cited by end users. The specifics of each dataset are listed below, but the key distinction between the two datasets is that data from the CFDA Fashion Calendar cannot be reused, shared or adapted for any commercial purposes.

Fashion Calendar 1941-2014

This first set of data consists of both the data itself and any digitized images of the print issues. This material is in copyright and has been made available by the Fashion Institute of Technology under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This means you are free to share and adapt this material as long as you provide attribution, include a link to the license, and indicate if you have made any changes. CFDA Fashion Calendar 2015-

The second set of data consists of material created after the CFDA took over the publication of the Fashion Calendar online in 2015. This data is copyrighted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and has been made available strictly for research and educational purposes. It cannot be used for any commercial purposes without the express consent of the CFDA. When providing an attribution for this material, we request you include the credit, “Courtesy of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.”
